Things to do in Ightham Village
Ightham is a small village in Kent where the main manor house resides. There is little to do in the village with the manor house being the main attraction, but there are three areas to visit to have some fun and eat good food:
Perfetto Country Store
Set in this small village is the perfect Italian restaurant. The restaurant has a true “home” feel with tables close together and the inside of the establishment cozy. Fresh fruits, delicious pasta dishes, scrumptious meats and pizza can also be eaten at Perfetto. If you want to escape the allure of the English countryside and enjoy a small village restaurant that has been honored with awards of excellence, this is the place to go.
The Harrow Inn
A small gem and the perfect spot to grab a pint and kick back. The Harrow Inn, is not an inn but instead a pub and restaurant that is filled with English charm. The prices are great, and the owners are hands-on and are friendly. Prices are cheap, and John, the owner, also tends to the bar and is always up for a friendly chat with patrons.
The Old House
Another restaurant in town. The Old House will bring you back to a time when a pub was a pub. British cuisine is offered, and there is a variety of ale and ciders available. The food is delightful while there is always one lager on tap. You won’t find continental lagers here – and that’s how patrons like it.
Venturing into Sevenoaks
There’s a lot of local food, but if you want a truly good time – no food included – step out into Sevenoaks. This is where you’ll find many of the areas must thriving activities outside of what the village of Ightham can offer.
Why stop at one great home when you can see a beautiful palace that dates back 600 years? Knole is a spectacular home that was once owned as an Archbishop’s palace and passed on to royal families before coming into the hands of the Sackville family which still owns the home today. The home includes a bookshop, café, shops, learning centers and so much more. If you visit Ightham Mote, this is a must-see in the area.
Explore, enjoy the sights or marvel at the variety of plants and flowers in Emmetts Garden. The garden is open daily and is the perfect place to relax and read a book. The garden is small, so it will take only a short time to view it all.
Riverhill Himalayan Gardens
The Riverhill gardens are another great destination off of Riverhill road and are most famous for their Bluebells. This is a great choice for anyone that wants to view even more luxurious flowers in the area.
Stag Community Arts Centre
The Stag is the place to go for theatre. The centre includes a variety of shows and productions to watch as well as cinema on certain days.
Kent and the Surrounding Area
Sevenoaks has a lot to offer, but if you want even more activities to enjoy, Kent is the next best option. In Kent, you’ll find countless restaurants and entertainment options. Some of the activities and places to explore in the area include:
- Dover Castle
- Hawking Centre
- Canterbury Cathedral
- Hever Castle
- Lower Leas Coastal Park
- White Cliffs
- Ramsgate Tunnel
Kent is rich in history, and castle and estate hunting is optimal in the area. Leeds Castle is also in Kent as well as a variety of other castles that will make your travel even more fun and exciting. The Mote is just one of many of the stately homes in the area that have a rich history – and many of the castles are breathtaking.
Whether you want to sit and watch a show, go to a local pub and drink a pint of ale or explore some of the largest homes, castles and gardens in the area, you’ll be able to find it all around Ightham Mote.
